Major overseas contract for CW Engineering

Recent conflicts in Libya and Iraq have highlighted the destruction suffered by water ways within modern war zones and our government ministers have appealed to British companies to gain a share in the rebuilding projects. One of those to have benefitted already is weed screen cleaner specialists CW Engineering of King’s Lynn.

They are working with the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources on a major irrigation project in Babil Governorate. The current project will re-establish water ways to optimise water usage, reduce losses and control water distribution, meeting the requirement for extensive agricultural irrigation. This includes refurbishment of the Al-Mahaweel Head pumping station maintaining water levels to ensure gravity irrigation for lands located within the borders of Al-Mahaweel Stream.

CW Engineering has been responsible for manufacturing a 31.5 metre long weedscreen cleaner to clean 5 individual debris screens. Each of the 5 screens is 3.6 metres wide with 2 sets of stop logs and stainless steel supporting frames for each bay.

“Our drawings and technical details had to be supplied to the Iraqi authorities before we were able to build anything and they all came back unchallenged” explains Dickie Dye.

“Installation drawings, written installation procedures with photographic illustrations and operating and maintenance manuals have all been translated into Arabic to assist with the installation and operation of the machine in Iraq.
“Subsequently, our standard electrical and mechanical trials have been carried out at our UK factory and all documentation has been forwarded to Iraq.  This project is now ready for shipping to Iraq.

“In the Spring we were pleased to receive Mohammed AL Yousif, our customer from Iraq, who visited our factory in King’s Lynn and a number of our weedscreen cleaner installations of which he was most complimentary.

“Iraqi project consultants went worldwide looking for suitable suppliers of equipment so it is quite an achievement for a small company such as CW Engineering to be part of a prestigious project like this.

“All in all, this has been an interesting project and has proved once again the depth of our in-house skills and the teamwork that has guaranteed another happy client.”
